Stephen MacDonald's moving and intriguing play tells the story of the friendship formed between World War I poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen during their time together at Craiglockhart Hospital for nervous diseases. When Owen died in 1918, aged twenty five, only five of his poems had been published, yet he was to become one of the most significant poets of the twentieth century. Most of his war poems are based on his experiences in front line service in what was said to be the worst winter France had known for forty years.
