Teddy Bears picnic with a difference

If you go down to the farm in May, you’re sure of a chocolate surprise!
Pemberton’s Chocolate farm at Llanboidy, Carmarthenshire will be celebrating May half term with a magical Teddy Bears picnic theme. (May 31st till June 4th) Joining the team at the chocolate farm will be Pemberton Bear, on hand to help with face painting, chocolate tours and the choc-tastic chocolate Teddy Bear hunt!
Take part in a Teddy Bear hunt where you simply need to find all the clues around the site to receive your chocolate bear. The Comfort food cafe will be issuing special children’s picnic boxes too.

Mystery and intrigue abound in Newton House as Dinefwr Park and Castle opens its doors to an evening of Victorian drama. Bring the family (and your wits) for a glimpse into the past as the School of Theatre and Performance at Trinity University College bring the famous sleuth to life. Will you be able to solve the mysteries in time? Can you outwit the greatest detective of them all - Sherlock Holmes!?

Duckling Days
National Wetland Centre Wales, Llanelli.
For one week only each year the National Wetland Centre Wales offers visitors the chance to get up close to their ducklings during a special tour of the hatchery and duckery. This year, the Duckling Days fall over half term giving you the perfect opportunity to introduce your little darlings to some sweet little ducklings. Daily tours take place at 12pm, 2pm & 3pm and last approximately 45 minutes.
Stretching over 450 acres on the Burry Inlet, the National Wetland Centre Wales in Llanelli is magnificent mosaic of lakes, pools and lagoons and home to countless wild species from dragonflies and little egrets to over 600 of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese, swans and flamingos.

Objects of desire
National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Inspired by the richness and symbolism of Dutch still life painting, Victoriana, and the archaeological supremacy of ceramics, Georgina Hughes finds her art by foraging in the personal significance and arresting presence of objects. In her new show at the National Botanic Garden of Wales - entitled 'Presence' - Gina’s ceramics and her photography illustrate perfectly that inspiration as well as the power of her chosen objects. ‘Presence’ by Georgina Hughes is in the Courtyard Gallery at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Living Pictures Productions Presents...
A new translation of Strindberg's Miss Julie by Rayna Weisteen.
Set at the turn of the 19th Century, Strindberg's classic tale deals with the struggles of class, love and lust.
Midsummer Eve night, on the estate of a Count in Wales, a young woman, Miss Julie, is attempting to escape an existence cramped by the social constraints of the time...she provocatively dances with some of the men at the servants' annual Midsummer Eve party and in particular, Jean, her father's footman. Midsummer Eve night is known for its madness...Jean and Miss Julie go too far...there is no turning back.
This exciting new production features a new translation, a choir singing live each night and will be performed in English and Welsh. It will be directed by Living Pictures Joint Artistic Director Robert Bowman (Bristol Old Vic, Bath Theatre Royal and RSC) and stars Rayna Weisteen (Joint Artistic Director Bastionen Theatre, Malmo, Sweden), Rhydian Jones (S4C) and Sian Summers (Sherman Cymru). Choral spectacular
National Botanic Garden of Wales.
More than 700 young voices will ring out at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday June 12. The Carmarthenshire Music Service is holding its second ‘Proms in the Park’ event at the award-winning venue, featuring the combined choirs of Carmarthen, Dinefwr/Gwendraeth and Llanelli. Emyr Wynne Jones, School Improvement Officer for Music, in Carmarthenshire, says: "This will be a spectacular event featuring three choirs and hundreds of young singers from primary schools across Carmarthenshire." The singing starts at 11am and entry is from 9am and costs £6 for adults and £3 for children.

Midsummer Concert
National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Harry Potter will be one of the stars of the show when Symphonica Tywi takes to the stage in the Great Glasshouse. The 40-piece symphony orchestra returns on Saturday June 19 for their annual concert - and will play from about 7.30pm until dusk. There are few better ways to spend a warm, west Wales summer’s evening than in the company of these marvellous musicians in such a stunning setting. Conductor Mike Cottam said: "It’s going to be another wonderful evening".
He has put together another mouth-watering programme of music for the annual concert, including the Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas; Scheherezade, Rimsky Korsakov; Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel Overture; and The Harry Potter Suite by John Williams.

Art Auction at King Street Gallery, Carmarthen
Over 30 artists nationwide have kindly donated postcard size pieces of original work, for an art auction that will be held at the King Street Gallery, Carmarthen on Saturday the 26th of June. A special thanks to the West Wales artists for their support, including Susan Sands, Charlotte Leadbeater and Mark Cox. And especially Prudence Walters who has donated 11 pieces. Numbered tickets can be purchased prior to this for £40 which will guarantee that person a piece of work and a glass of bubbly on the day.
