Poet In Residence - Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch

Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch is a poet who lives and works in New Quay. Twice short-listed for Wales Book of the Year, she is the first Welsh poet on the Picador Poetry list. Samantha is also Writing Fellow at Trinity St David University.  01994 427420

Exhibition Unveiling "Dylan’s Domain"

Robert plans to exhibit 25 new paintings for this event. Robert creates textures by overlaying alkyd oil paint with a palette knife, but often resorting to rags and even fingers to obtain this multi-coloured effect. The result is a delightful fragmentation of the surfaces that is so attractive. 6 - 8pm. Robert Harrison Exhibition will be on display all month.  01994 427420

Creepy Carmarthen - The Spooky Town Tour

Laugharne Festival of Poetry and Film

Laugharne Castle.
Join us for a weekend celebrating Dylan Thomas’s life at Laugharne Castle. Laugharne Festival of Poetry and Film will offer a unique programme of film screenings, poetry readings, talks and creative workshops that will celebrate and build on the legacy of Dylan Thomas. The festival will feature contemporary poetry film screenings from around the UK - many of which will be making their debut appearances. The festival will also feature readings and in-discussion events from award winning UK poets in both English and Welsh. The festival will also support a programme of film-making, poetry and creative writing workshops in the weeks leading up to festival, and during the festival itself, involving local schools. The Laugharne Castle summer-house will be used as a setting for an innovative short programme of contemporary art installations featuring sound and text. 10.30am - 4.30pm.

Dinefwr Literature Festival

9.00am - 10.00pm. Dinefwr Literature Festival, a celebration of words, music and landscape, returns to the stunning surroundings of Dinefwr Park and Castle in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside this summer. The three-day bilingual festival is back with an eclectic programme of national and international writers, award-winning poets and emerging English and Welsh literary talent, along with ground-breaking comedy, music, art, cinema, cabaret and creative activities for children. Festival events will take place in Newton House, the National Trust’s stunning 17th century property, and in marquees in the grounds of the landscaped park, home to the famous White Park Cattle. This year the ancient Castle, which is reached by a woodland walk, will host performances, specially commissioned for the mythical setting. Llandovery Sprint Triathlon

This is an event suitable for all abilities including complete triathlon novices. The 400m pool swim takes place in the Llandovery Swimming pool with a 20km bike ride along the scenic rural road up towards Rhandirmwyn. A straight out and bike course will provide a good test for any cyclist. The 5km run will then take you along the streets of Llandovery town and out into the countryside once again. This is an undulating 5k run which finishes at the LLandovery pool. This is part of the Carmarthenshire Triathlon Series for 2014. Triathletes can also donate or raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Charity which is Healthy Life Activities official charity for 2014.   07968 859260

10am - 5pm. Traditional carnival float procession, arts, crafts, main arena, refreshment units, community stands and exhibitors, adult & child fun fair rides and stalls, bouncy castles, climbing wall, mobile kitchen & cooking displays, walkabout S4C characters, sporting displays and competitions including a Rugby tournament, tug of war, Jimmy Juggle kids entertainer and crazy golf.   • 10.00am - Park open for fun fair, refreshments, children’s entertainment & stalls.
  • 12pm - Carnival Parade to start. Theme is Counties of the World and will see participants from the school and community dress up in the costumes of the world and parade through the villages into the park itself. ROUTE: Up Cwmamman Road towards Garnant, turn left at Upper Station Road in Garnant, cross the Railway crossing and continue down Upper Station Road towards Ysgol y Bedol adjoining Folland Road. Turn left into Garnant Park adjacent Bowls Club and continue toward main stage.
  • 1pm - Carnival due to arrive in Parc yr Amman.
  • 1.30pm - Presentation of carnival king and queen.
  • 2pm - Arena Act.

BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time Annual Summer Garden Party
