Fieldnotes - Iwan Bala and Menna Elfyn
Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Church Lane, Carmarthen SA31 1LH.
Fieldnotes in ethnography are accounts describing experiences and observations that a researcher has made while participating in an intense and involved manner within a cultural situation. Iwan Bala's artwork has always been about ideas, many of which come from reading, others from lived experience. He sees his drawings and
artworks as ‘Fieldnotes’ through which he notes feelings, thoughts, and ideas, transforming them
into something visible and concrete, which remain ‘figments’ of the imaginative creative process. In collaboration with the poetry of Menna Elfyn, these drawings become ‘anthropology from the inside’. Menna Elfyn is a poet, playwright, columnist and editor who writes mainly in Welsh.
