Scarlets Heritage Tour

Parc y Scarlets, Pemberton Retail Park, Llanelli SA14 9UZ.
The Scarlets heritage tour lasts approximately 45 to 75 minutes. Provides the option of guided or unguided. 10% discount for group bookings of 10 or more. Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon, every week. The Trail at Parc y Scarlets provides a range of visitor experiences and learning opportunities from 1872 onwards using audio, visual and interactive software methods to tell the story of Llanelli and its world famous rugby club.

Father Christmas Grotto

Pembrey Country Park.
Santa is coming to Pembrey Country Park on a bike, a miniature train and in plimsoles for a variety of Christmas events. Santa will also be in his traditional grotto at the Sidan Cafe from Sunday November 30th and every Sunday until Christmas. Weekday Santa Visits are on a pre-booked basis for groups of 30 or more for schools and nurseries. On Sunday December 7 the Llanelli Model Railway Engineers are organising a Christmas Cracker hunt on the miniature railway and Stephanie Thomas from the Sidan Cafe is organising a Family Festive Fun Run, inviting everyone to turn up in a Santa suit or hat. There will be more than 20 craft stalls in a marquee outside the restaurant set up from 11am and there will also be a Charity Santa Cycle from the Sidan Lounge to the North Dock and back again to raise funds for Week On The Street, a local charity which raises funds for early intervention into autism. And don’t forget one of the highlights of the year will be the traditional Christmas dash to the sea for the Boxing Day Walrus Dip when 1,000 intrepid dippers are expected to take the plunge. 01554 742424

Newcastle Emlyn Victorian Night

Newcastle Emlyn Town Centre.

  • 3rd - Waste & tyre amnesty: Location Map. St Clears (Car park). 8am - 1pm. Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions, garden waste and tyres (maximum 10 tyres per household). However, paint, garden chemicals, car batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, construction and trade waste will not be accepted. There will be no KWT / TT officer present at this event.
  • 5th - Ground works: Capel Libanus, nr. Llansadwrn. Location Map. 9.30am - 2.30pm. Work will include strimming, tree pruning, and general tidying up of graveyard. Some tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring bow saw, spades, shovels, rakes, hoes, forks, loppers, shears, strimmer* (50:1 two stroke petrol will be available for use), broom, secateurs, gloves. This event is unsuitable for young children.
  • 8th - Beach clean: Llansteffan. Location Map. Next to recycling bins in main car park. 10am - 12pm. Tools and equipment will be available, but if possible please bring gloves.

*You must bring your own PPE for using strimmer (gloves / long sleeve top / face & ear protection). If using a brushcutter (strimmer with blade) you must bring along a LANTRA or NPTC certificate of competence. Failure to do so will result in the insurance being invalid.

All (unless otherwise stated) are welcome to join the above events. You are welcome to stay for the duration or any time you can give will be greatly received. For all day events (those that continue after 12pm), please bring lunch as we don’t provide this, and the work locations are often not near food outlets / shops. Festive Test for Schools

There’s still time to sign up for the annual Christmas Tree Decorating Competition at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. This year’s contest is on Thursday 4th December and the theme is “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” to help mark 100 years since Dylan Thomas’ birth. Schools will be up against the clock to decorate their Christmas tree using reused and recycled materials to create imaginative and colourful decorations based on this year’s theme.

The aims of the event are to:

  • Promote sustainability and the re-use and recycling of materials.
  • Enable pupils to get their creative juices flowing.
  • Have fun.

There’s a rare opportunity to meet the brilliant author and illustrator Jackie Morris at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday December 6. Many of the unique, independent shops of Newcastle Emlyn will be open until 8pm on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th December and also Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December. Newcastle Emlyn has a cornucopia of local crafts, antiques, gift, fashion, deli's and Fair Trade shops, so many unusual gift ideas for a relaxed evening of shopping. There is free parking in the town after 6pm and you can finish your evening with a festive drink in the many pubs, café’s and hotel. This is the first time that Newcastle Emlyn's community of traders has offered late night shopping. Local shopkeepers want to put Newcastle Emlyn on the map and to encourage the idea to Shop Local. Gwendraeth Valley Paddlers Annual Mince Pie Paddle

The Quay Centre, Carmarthen to Towy Boat Club, Llangain.
This event is open to all paddlers who are capable of paddling the distance . Non GVP members £5, this includes hot cawl, mince pies, hot drinks & entry into the raffle at the finish. Registration from 8.30 am at the Quay Centre. If you need to shuttle cars please meet at the Boat Club in Llangain, the last shuttle will leave at 9.15 am. All paddlers to be on the water for 10.00 am. Paddlers are asked to dress for the weather, those of you who have not done this paddle before - warm clothes, gloves, hat, socks inside wetsuit shoes, wind proof cagoul. And of course Christmas fancy dress for paddler & boat will make friends smile (the more tinsel the better!) There will be a prize for the best decorated boat. Christmas Craft Fair & Santa Spectacular

The best local crafts might just make the perfect gift PLUS the Garden’s very special Santa Show (call 01558 667149 to book tickets). A pirate, a penguin, plenty of elves and (of course!) Father Christmas take centre stage in this year’s National Botanic Garden of Wales 'Santa Spectacular'. This annual, festive extravaganza bears all the hallmarks of being another Christmas cracker so make sure you book early for a seat at 'The Pirate Who Stole Christmas'. Written and choreographed by the Garden’s volunteer co-ordinator Jane Down and put on by a dedicated team of her volunteers, the 25-minute show will be performed in the unique and magical revolving Theatr Botanica. 'The Pirate Who Stole Christmas' can be seen at the National Botanic Garden on December 13-14 and 20-21. Show times are: 11.30am, 12.15pm, 1.45pm and 2.30pm each day. Walrus Dip

The infamous Walrus Dip sees people entering the sea in a wide variety of fancy dress ranging from Vikings, fairies, pantomime horses & various super heroes.
