Exhibition Unveiling - John Uzzell Edwards

Dylan Thomas Boathouse, Dylan's Walk, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire SA33 4SD.
John Uzzell Edwards has always painted, and his canvas has always been Wales. His early work in the ‘60s depicted the dereliction that was overtaking Merthyr and the Rhymney Valley, where he was born, the ruined chapels, abandoned buildings and fast-closing mines. 6pm - 8pm. Exhibition will be on display all month.

7.30pm. £10.00. At the beginning of the sixties a threat came to the residents of Llangyrndeyrn. Swansea Council were looking for a place to build a new reservoir. Under the plans over a 1000 acres wuld have been drowned and an entire community would be lost. Under the leadership of Rev. W. M Rees and Cllr. William Thomas, farmers and villagers united to fight to secure the future of their community.

All the leads form the iconic rock opera will be celebrating 40 years sine the work was first perfomed on teh stage of teh Ffwrnes on Thursday of the National Esiteddfod week. Fantastic, not-to-be-missed, history event. Leading Roman re-enactment group Comitatus is bringing its elite Roman cavalry unit to Carmarthenshire for the first time. This is part of the 'Romans in Carmarthenshire Project', a CADW Heritage Tourism Project which has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and is being delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council, the National Trust and Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

Merlin Festival Children’s Fun Run and Scoot-R-Run

Merlin’s Walk, Carmarthen.
This event is part of the Merlin Festival which is held in Carmarthen on an annual basis and attracts huge crowds to this mythical Town. The event gets underway at 3.00pm from Merlin’s Walk with a 1Km Fun Run for children of Primary School age. It would be great to see all children dressed in their Merlin/Wizards hats and gowns for this fun event. At approximately 3.15pm we will hold our Scoot-R-Run which once again is for children of Primary school age, but this time you will need to be on your scooter. All those taking part will need to be wearing a cycle helmet and everyone taking part will get a Merlin’s medal.

Dylan Thomas at Play (4 days / 3 nights)

Dylan Thomas was everyone’s favourite friend, whether it was rolling down the sanddunes mid-battle with his school pals, catching a film with an old flame, celebrating a suitable surreal performance in a Swansea play with a séance at a prehistoric tomb, or drinking with friends in the Llansteffan pubs after rowing across the Taf Estuary. Join us in visiting the places where Dylan played, socialised and relaxed.

Llanelli Standard Distance Triathlon

Millennium Coastal Park, Llanelli.
This event won the Welsh Triathlon Associations Event of the Year for 2013 and has already become one of the events of the year to take part in. This is a great open water Triathlon on the Welsh circuit and already in its 1st two years has attracted a large field of athletes. The event attracts 1st time triathletes or those giving open water triathlon a go for the very first time to the very experienced quality triathletes from across the UK. The event takes place at the North Dock in the Millennium Coastal Park and starts with a 1500m swim in the safe haven of the North Dock. A 40km bike ride follows and takes you down to the outskirts of the historic Town of Kidwelly which is a fast flat course before you return towards Llanelli and then head down to the Wetlands Centre and returning to transition at the North Dock. The 10km run is a two lapped course which takes you along the scenic Millennium Coastal Path with a fantastic finish outside the Discovery Centre. This is part of the Carmarthenshire Triathlon Series for 2014. The event starts at 7.30am and there will be 1 mass swim start. Triathletes can also donate or raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Charity which is Healthy Life Activities official charity for 2014.
