Fabulous Foodie Ideas

Cheese Tasting

Just a few miles from Newcastle Emlyn, down a country lane there’s a great attraction for cheese lovers. Caws Cenarth is a family business open to visitors…and the oldest established producer of Welsh Farmhouse Caerffili. More recently developed cheeses include the Brie-like Perl Wen and a creamy blue, Perl Las. Drop in to (best time is 11.30-3pm) to discover how cheese is made and to watch the cheesemakers hard at work, and of course stock up.

A Sweet Treat

Indulge your sweet tooth and buy delicious souvenirs of your trip at Heavenly, a chocolate, ice-cream and cake shop that Willy Wonka would feel at home in. The chocolates made on the premises come in all shapes and sizes – from love spoons to footballs – and the ice cream lab uses Welsh milk and cream for its sumptuous concoctions.

Hangout

Funky brunch bar The Hangout serves fresh, tasty dishes with a ‘seed to plate’ approach that means each ingredient has been carefully thought through and any elements that can be made or baked in-house have pride of place on the menu. Go healthy with granola or exotic with shakshuka. Nursing a hangover? Opt for the #vodkaisnotmyfriend cooked brunch and get the works.

Pizza & Ice Cream

Woodfired Pizza and Ice Cream on the Farm- shhh don’t tell the Neapolitans but woodfired pizza and homemade ice cream really do taste better on the farm from a converted cow shed! The ice cream-making Cowpots family, on their farm not far from Laugharne, have a new pizzeria and ice cream parlour called the Cowshed at Cowpots. Open Weds-Sat, not to be missed!

Coal Town Coffee

Coffee from one of the UK’s Best Roasteries- Lonely Planet recently cited Coaltown Coffee Roasters in Ammanford as being at the forefront of rural roasting in Wales and was featured in their Global Coffee Tour book, naming it as one of the top 16 roasteries and cafes in the UK. If it’s a hot day and you need cooling down head to their café in Ammanfod for an iced marmalade pour over brew. But don’t worry they can do a latte or a flat white too!
