Theatres

Theatre Elli

Carmarthenshire’s big names in theatreland include Theatr Elli in Llanelli, the Lyric in Carmarthen and Ammanford Miners' Theatre in Ammanford. All offer a complete range of shows to suit all tastes, from drama to musicals, pantomimes and opera.

The Lyric Theatre and cinema in King Street, Carmarthen, is believed to be the largest single screen cinema in Wales, with 740 seats to one screen. As a theatre auditorium it is the fourth largest in the Principality.

Historic Theatr Elli first opened its doors in 1938 as The Odeon and has seen some big names topping the bill. The venue was a favourite of Pontyberem-born singer Dorothy Squires.

The Ammanford Miners' Theatre is another attractive venue, full of character. It hosts a number of activities throughout the year and also has regular cinema showings as well as theatre, Dance, Music and Arts events.
